Social History: Sent to Miss B. Brooks at Prince Edward Mansions on Moscow Road in London W2, the message is a delightful travelogue from a trip to France:

"Always wanted to see this chat (about 30 miles from Paris) + wasn't disappointed. Its lovely even in pouring rain. Rest of Paris super as usual tho' v. expens. even non so than home I think. Have overeaten + drunk too much but had a v. good time."

Scene: stunning aerial perspective of the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte in Maincy, France. This architectural masterpiece, built between 1656 and 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, is world-renowned for being the direct inspiration for the Palace of Versailles.
