Vintage Postcard 1953 Postcard Collector Epping Forest Garden Jacksonville F
Social History: This is a fantastic "Postcard Collector" card. The sender, Bob Stilwell (member ASHP #177), is writing to Joseph Nardone in New York to negotiate a trade. He mentions having "several hundred" postcards, including old foreign ones, and asks if Joseph has any cards he wants. This is a prime example of mid-century deltiology.
Scene: Epping Forest is a Mediterranean Revival landmark and was the center of Jacksonville's high society. This card captures the iconic geometric tile garden designed by the du Ponts, which is now part of the exclusive Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club.
