Social History: The sender visited the quarry not just as a tourist, but to select a granite memorial headstone. Rock of Ages was (and is) the most famous name in monuments, and "picking your stone" was a significant family event:

"Dear Mom. Well picked out my stone today, having a nice trip going to Lake Placid N.Y. tonight be home Sunday eve"

Scene: Features the world-famous Rock of Ages Granite Quarry in Barre, Vermont, showcasing the massive scale of the "mountain top" quarry and the 110-foot derrick used to lift granite blocks. The circular Rock of Ages seal on the back was a guarantee of quality.

Postal History: The card was postmarked in Barre, VT, on August 14, 1952, and features a blue metered postage mark (2 cents) sent to Mr. & Mrs. F.A. Clark in Alma, Michigan.
