Vintage Banknote 1926 Greece 1000 Drachmai Red Overprint Georgios Stavros Lions

This authentic 1926 National Bank of Greece 1,000 Drachmai note features a prominent red provisional state overprint. Following the founding of the brand-new central bank, the Bank of Greece (ΤΡΑΠΕΖΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ), these massive notes received a sweeping red text overprint across the center face to authorize them under the new central regime.

Displays Georgios Stavros, the famed 19th-century financier and original founder of the National Bank of Greece and ancient, relief-carved stone Lion Gate at Mycenae.

Security: Deeply pressed, highly raised borders and microscopic guilloché patterns pressed onto premium cotton paper fibers by the American Bank Note Company to protect against period forgery.
