Own a piece of the post-WWI era from the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. These notes feature the historic red "DEUTSCHÖSTERREICH" (German-Austria) overprint, used to validate imperial currency for the new republic. If your note had the red stamp, it was "good" in the new Republic of Austria. If it didn't, it was just a worthless piece of old empire paper.
The denominations are featured in German, Hungarian, Czech, Polish, and other regional languages.
- 1 Krone (1916): About Uncirculated (AU) condition. Extremely crisp, white paper with sharp corners. Series 1625, No. 187407. ~113 mm x 68 mm
- 2 Kronen (1917): Circulated condition. Shows honest historical wear with a visible center fold and soft edges. Series 1678, No. 091445. ~125 mm x 85 mm
Watermarks: These early Krone notes often used patterned watermarks (like wavy lines or small circles throughout the paper) rather than a single portrait.
