Personal story: Residing in Hungary, I source these handmade linens directly from local ladies - bypassing middlemen and machine made replicas. These 18 pieces are one unified family heirloom set originating from a town near Budapest.

Size Approximations: Pieces range from 14 - 16 cm with variances for handmade.

Condition: Good vintage quality. Consistent with its 50-year history, the textile features a soft, greyish-off-white antique tone—a natural patina of time. Authentic characteristics include small, scattered amber age spots (foxing) and faint surface marks, both hallmarks of its genuine heritage.

Embroidery:  Each piece features a rich, hand-stitched floral arrangement showcasing flowers like deep red roses, bright yellow zinnias, and purple lilies accented by delicate blue forget-me-nots. The set includes various coordinated designs, each rendered with the dense, raised texture that defines the masterful artisan quality of the Kalocsa style. The professional finish of the scalloped, buttonhole edges is a hallmark of the folk art cooperatives that were highly active in Hungary during the 1970s and 80s. These meticulous borders provide a durable yet delicate frame for the high-quality, pearlized cotton threads used throughout the sets.

Care: Vintage textiles require specialized cleaning; please research the proper protocols if you wish to iron or clean.

What is Kalocsai? Experience the beauty of a radiant garden brought to life! Kalocsai embroidery is a dazzling explosion of Hungarian spirit that transforms simple fabric into a colorful garden of hand-stitched wildflowers and sun-drenched peppers. While Kalocsa art began in the 19th century as simple white-on-white lace, it erupted into a vivid celebration of Hungarian pride, captured in every hand-stitched petal.
