This hand-stitched folk art set features Hungarian needlepoint designs on 8 square fabrics. Whether used as home decor or displayed as wall art, the textiles provides a sophisticated, rustic touch to your space while celebrating traditional counted-thread artistry. The bold red mat showcases four large, symmetrical medallions composed of intricate interlocking knots, framed by a red-and-white checkered border. The golden-brown textile has a disciplined corner emblem balanced by three smaller fleur-de-lis accents. Six matching doilies boast geometric star motifs in bright colors, detailed in the Bereg Rákóczi style.

Personal story: Residing in Budapest, I source these handmade linens directly from local Hungarian ladies, bypassing middlemen and machine made replicas.

Size Approximations: Red Textile 20 x 20 cm, Gold Textile 16 x 16 cm, Large Star Textiles (4pc) 19 x 19 cm, Small Star Textiles (2pc) 15 x 15 cm.

Condition: Vintage quality. Consistent with its 60+ year history, the linens feature antiqued colors and a natural patina of time. Authentic characteristics may include scattered amber age spots, faint surface marks, and stray threads- hallmarks of genuine heritage. While the intricate stitching remains vibrant, two of the white pieces show notable foxing with brown age spots, and the two left side textiles have minor loose threading in the back. See close up photos for details.

Care: Vintage textiles require specialized cleaning; please research the proper protocols if you wish to iron or clean.

What is Beregi? Bereg embroidery captures the soul of the Hungarian forest in a mathematical dance of thread. Unlike other flowing styles, it is a masterpiece of disciplined geometry, where every stitch is a precise heartbeat of tradition. Born in the rugged Upper Tisza region, these patterns anchor a room with the strength of ancient symbols. This style of structured beauty is a testament to a heritage that finds order and elegance in the wild.
