"1-1-13. Arrived home O.K. but was sure some tired. Didn't go to work till noon. Will have to come up to Eugene again some time and stay a few days. Chet."

Scene: This is an exceptional, highly collectible postcard documenting the historic Salem Armory building in Oregon. It was dedicated on June 18, 1912—making this photo, postmarked in January 1913, an incredibly early view captured just months after the building opened. The historic landmark stood guard over downtown Salem for nearly 50 years until it was ultimately demolished.

A group of local citizens dressed in Edwardian-era garments, flat caps, and wide-brimmed hats stand casually along the sidewalk in front of the massive stone foundation.

Postal: It is cleanly struck with a highly sought-after U.S. Postal Service 13-Star American Flag machine cancellation stamp dated January 2, 1913.

Size: Standard 3.5 x 5.5”

Era: 1910s Golden Age / Edwardian Era
