Vintage Postcard 1969 Jealousy Egg Soup Burg Katz Germany Rhine Valley Travelers
Social History: Mailed to The Bayley Family in Southampton, England
"Dear Auntie Sylvia, Uncle Colin, Wendy and Trevor, We are here in the middle of the Rhine Valley in Germany. The weather is very hot and we are all bright red from it. The food is quite good and we have already had Egg Soup, Chips with Salad Cream on and so on. Hope you are well, but I understand it has been raining lately up there. Hope you are jealous. Love Robert."
Scene: Panoramic view of Burg Katz (Katz Castle) overlooking the Rhine River near St. Goarshausen, Germany. Built in the late 14th century, this "Cat" castle famously stands across from "Burg Maus" (Mouse Castle) in the UNESCO World Heritage Rhine Gorge.
Postal: The "50 JAHRE" Memorial Cachet features three crosses that represent a military cemetery, a somber reminder of the Rhine Valley's history. Because this marks their 50th anniversary, we can pinpoint the production of this card exactly to 1969.
