Social History: The message is a "social history goldmine," capturing the domestic reality of early Idaho life. Sent to Mrs. Esther Dredge of the prominent local Dredge/Bowerman family:

"Dec 22 Dear Sister I will write you a few lines tonight we are all pretty well the children all have colds...Lettie has been sick ever since Thanksgiving till now she started to school this week the school is going to have a ...tonight the Sunday School Xmas day they are going to have a tree Enoch is Sk. NIck. We like it here fine but we are a little crowded for room I got that hood patron from Sister Scott got Lettie’s made I will send the patron or make the hood for you it is quite a job...I will close wishing you all a merry Xmas a happy New Year"

History: At the time this card was mailed, Sugar City was a bustling center of the sugar beet industry. Many early residents lived in "tent houses" (known as "Rag Town") while more permanent structures were built.
