Vintage Postcard 1962 RPPC Xanten Germany Marienaltar Siegfried Postal History
Social History: The handwritten German message sent to Frau Julie Hoppe in Mindelheim, Bavaria, references the birthplace of Siegfried, the hero of the Nibelungenlied (aka: The German Iliad poem):
"Many dear greetings from my birthday trip to the Rhine, to the birthplace of Siegfried. Heartfelt thanks again for the beautiful gifts and wishes. Dear Mrs. Hoppe, I must also thank you sincerely for the sweet things that Siegfried brought along. Warmly, K. Engelskirchen."
The second "Siegfried" mentioned in the message is likely the sender's traveling companion!
