Bring authentic European heirloom charm into your home with this exquisite, matching 5-piece set of vintage Hungarian Kalocsa doilies. Dating from the 1970s, they were created by a single artist and showcase breathtaking, museum-quality handiwork. Each piece features vibrant, traditional folk art floral motifs—including iconic Hungarian paprika reds, soft pinks, forget-me-not blues, and sunny yellows. The borders are masterfully finished with intricate Richelieu openwork (cutwork lace loops), a highly skilled textile technique.

Ships free from Hungary! Non-EU buyers cover any import duties. Courier delivery requires a physical street address (no P.O. boxes). Add more European Specialties to your order. Thank you.

Personal story: I sourced these from a woman in Akasztó- a village near Kalocsa. They were hand-embroidered by her mother, Rozália, a local artisan who lived to the age of 86.

Set Includes 5 Varied Display Shapes and Sizes:
  • 1 Large Round Accent Doily, 22cm
  • 1 Small Round Coaster/Doily, 15cm
  • 2 Intricate Square Table Mats, 18cm
  • 1 Rectangular Centerpiece Mat, 22cm

Condition: Beautiful vintage condition. The hand-embroidery remains bright, tight, and wonderfully preserved. Please review the photos to appreciate the stunning detail of the authentic handmade craftsmanship. Consistent with its 50-year history, the textile shows minor spots and has a greyish-off-white tone that is a natural patina of time. These characteristics serve as a hallmark of its authentic age and heritage.

Design & Style: These pieces are a vibrant example of Kalocsa folk art, featuring traditional wildflowers like tulips and forget-me-nots. Its "soul" is the Richelieu technique, where the background is hand-cut to create a delicate, lacy framework held together by tiny thread bars.

Care: Vintage textiles require specialized cleaning; please research the proper protocols if you wish to iron or clean the linen.

History of Kalocsa: Originating in the 19th century as white-on-white hole embroidery, Kalocsa textiles evolved into a radiant garden of vibrant wildflowers representing Hungarian regional pride. Today, this artistry is a vanishing heritage as mass-produced machine work increasingly replaces the soul and precision of authentic hand-stitching.
