Antique Postcard 1923 Open Touring Car Mohawk Trail Deerfield Valley Road Trip
Social History: The handwritten message to a Mr. Howard Jones in the famous Turks Head Building in Providence, R.I., gives a quaint weather update: "Had a hail storm night before last, and the heat is very welcome here." It’s a perfect example of the quick "travel updates" shared before the era of long-distance telephone calls.
Scene: This card features the panoramic view of the Deerfield River Valley from Whitcomb Summit on the historic Mohawk Trail in Massachusetts. Opened in 1914, this was one of the first roads in the U.S. designed specifically for scenic auto tourism. A 1920s Open Touring Car is seen navigating the winding trail, providing a rare visual record of early "motoring" culture.
