Authentic 100 Escudos banknote from Mozambique. This is the 1961 series featuring Aires de Ornelas, with the rare post-independence "Banco de Moçambique" black overprint applied in 1976.

Watermark: In the large blank circle on the left, you can see the Coat of Arms of Portugal (the Escutcheon) when held up to a normal light source.

UV Verified: The glowing text you see in the center reads "DECRETO-LEI N.º 10/76". This refers to "Decree-Law No. 10/76," the official 1976 Mozambican law that authorized the overprinting of old colonial currency for use by the newly independent nation.

Condition: Very Fine condition. Light creases. No pin holes.

A must-have for collectors of African or colonial transition currency. This note is a "tangible relic" of Mozambique's transition from a Portuguese colony to an independent nation. Because these were demonetized during a lightning-fast three-day exchange period in 1980, few remain in this good condition.
