This historic Hungarian fiscal note is dated May 25, 1946, and stems from the apex of the nation’s historic post-WWII hyperinflation crisis. Designed as an Adójegy (Tax Notice) with a face value of Ötszázezer (500,000) Adópengő, the design displays an elegant, highly detailed ornamental border scheme printed in a distinctive deep greyish-blue palette. While originally engineered as a stable bookkeeping unit to preserve government tax revenues against the rapidly depreciating currency, these documents were ultimately forced into general circulation as emergency legal tender to meet the desperate daily cash demands of the public.

Extremely Fine (XF) condition, retaining its clean, rigid paper crispness and bright face colors despite a couple of handling folds and natural aging patina along the back margins.
