Social History: Mailed to I. Hofman in Burton-on-Trent, England: 

"Tarbotton's phoned - say OK re garden & that they will give a key now - useful. Say ta for the egg. Do you know whether the cooking oil called Crisp & Dry is good for my chip pan (I was hoping to get away from over-greasy cooking?) - can't find it in the Which? that we have. See you next Tuesday. What does Tata want for birthday? - can you bring 1) dress-blue + skirt-in airing cupboard...visitor's bk-in dressing table."

The mention of Crisp & Dry (a brand launched in the late 60s) and Which? magazine provides a wonderful time capsule of mid-century consumer culture.
