Social History: Long-distance driving in 1956 meant dealing with dust, exhaust, car grease, and the inevitable spills from road-trip snacks. Women would throw a button-down or snap-front cotton smock over their actual dresses or nicer traveling clothes to keep them pristine. Sent from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Hazel Richardson in Rexford, Kansas:

"Here last nite now for breakfast at 7 AM. 463 mi. from home. Seemed like one vast corn field across Neb. Auntie & I both have smocks on this A.M. Warm yesterday but blanket last nite. Mary"

Scene: Mid-century modern interior dining room of the Town 'N Country Cafe located on historic Highway 16 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Postal: Collectible "KEEP SOUTH DAKOTA GREEN" state environmental slogan bars. Slogan cancellations promoting state conservation are highly sought after by specialty postal history collectors

Size: Standard 3.5 x 5.5"

Era: Photochrome Era (1945–Present)

Condition: Edge wear, sticker peel
