Social History: Includes a message from the dam's grand opening:

"Dear Cousin Bill: How do you like this kind of weather? We have been nearly freezing down here. Keokuk is dead since the celebration is over. We went to the dance Friday night. Had a dandy good time. Do you still play ball and....? ha! ha! As ever, Christy."

Scene: This postcard documents the Mississippi River Power Development in Keokuk, Iowa, during its final stages of completion in 1913. At the time, this dam was the largest hydroelectric plant in the world, a marvel of early 20th-century engineering.

Look closely at the top of the dam; you can see people walking along the narrow concrete pathways, giving a true sense of the immense scale of the project.

Postal History: Sharp, clear Keokuk, IA. SEP 16, 1913 circular cancel. Addressed to Mr. C.H. Johnson in Buffalo, Iowa.

Era: Divided Back

Size: Standard 3.5 x 5.5"

Type: Lithograph

Publisher: H.M. Anschutz, Keokuk, IA

Condition: Note the visible corner and edge wear, along with several surface creases and a small chip/tear at the top right edge. Despite the wear, the historical image and the writing remain clear.
