Antique Postcard 1900s Autun Cathedral France Saint Lazare Levy Fils Et Cie Paris
Historical Significance: This card features the Cathédrale Saint-Lazare d'Autun, a masterpiece of Cluniac Romanesque art built in the 1100s. The cathedral is world-renowned for its sculptures by the master artist Gislebertus, particularly the "Last Judgment" tympanum. These carvings were so significant that during the French Revolution, they were covered in plaster to protect them from destruction, a "secret" preservation that kept them in incredible condition for modern eyes.
