Social History: This authentic photo postcard, titled "In the Sugar Bush," captures the essence of rural New Hampshire during the early 1940s. It depicts the labor-intensive process of maple sap collection in the White Mountains.

The worker is shown using a traditional carrying yoke, a critical tool for navigating the rugged terrain where larger machinery could not pass, celebrating traditional hand-labor just as modern methods began to take hold.

Background features a team of cattle (oxen) hitched to a collection sled. In the rugged White Mountains, these powerful animals were indispensable, providing the "horsepower" needed to haul massive, sloshing barrels of raw sap through deep spring slush to the sugar shack.

RPPC: The crisp, high-contrast "Genuine Photograph" quality that photographer C.T. Bodwell (Clare Thomas Bodwell) was known for was sold exclusively at the Flume Reservation in Franconia Notch, a historic landmark that remains a central part of New Hampshire tourism.
