This pair captures a vital but lesser-known side of WWII mobilization: the intensive clerical processing required to organize millions of draftees. The "Punching Classification Cards" image is highly significant as it documents the early history of data processing and military bureaucracy. Clerks used manual punch tools on standardized cards to track aptitudes and assign recruits to specialized units.
The "Headquarters" card shows a stark, wood-frame barracks building, illustrating the rapid construction of temporary base towns across the home front. This card has writing on the back: "I never saw this building so can't say anything about it. Most H. Q. are the same."
Size: Standard 3.5 x 5.5"
