Social History: Sent to Mrs Donovan in Warwick, England:
"We are having a gorgeous holiday & my elementary German is proving useful. We stayed the night (Sat.) at Oberammergau pictured here - it is famous for the passion play which is enacted every ten years - next time 1970. It is a beautiful place & we loved it. We awoke Sunday morning after a thunderstorm during the night to hear the cuckoo through our window & to see the Tyrolean Alps covered with snow all round us. Everyone is so kind. We popped over the frontier into Italy through the Brenner Pass yesterday & back again so we have been to Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria & Italy so far!!"
Scene: Features the Haus Hollerlke in Oberammergau, Germany. The building is a stunning example of Lüftlmalerei—the traditional Bavarian art of fresco-style facade painting. The murals depicted are deeply religious, showing scenes of the Crucifixion and other biblical motifs.
Size: Continental 6 x 4"
Type: Photochrome with deckle edges
Publisher: Schöning & Co. + Gebr. Schmidt, Lübeck
Condition: The card shows typical age-related toning on the reverse. The stamp has been removed, but the handwriting is exceptionally clear
