Social History: This is a glossy printed card from approximately the 1950s. The reverse is unposted but includes a detailed, handwritten history in English about the Cathedral's World War II damage.

"The Cathedral was started in 1248 and was completed 632 yrs later in 1880. It was partially destroyed during last war + is now being repaired. Many Bishops are in the crypt + all around the inside of church. It isn’t a very pretty church but very old. Bridges are beautiful. The Rhine River is close by."

The "Gruss Aus" series: German for "Greetings From" refers to a popular style of souvenir postcards that originated in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland during the late 19th century.

Picture:
A beautiful vintage multi-view postcard from Cologne, Germany. The card features five distinct views, including the iconic Cologne Cathedral (Dom), the Rhine river with a steamship, and Great St. Martin Church. The central oval shows a striking night view of the Cathedral.
