This authentic Kalocsa doily brings Hungarian charm to your home. The hand-stitched piece features four vibrant floral sprays of traditional wildflowers, peppers, and grain on antiqued-white linen, centered around a delicate yellow diamond motif. Finished with a bold, deep red scalloped edge, it serves as a stunning accent that celebrates the rich heritage of European folk artistry.

Item ships from Hungary, please allow extra transit time. Combined shipping available for our European Specialties.

Personal story: I sourced this piece from a lady who owned it as an heirloom from her grandparents. They resided in a town near the Hungarian-Ukrainian border.

Size: Approximately 16 cm size and 8 grams weight.

Condition: Aged vintage quality. Consistent with its 60-year history, the linen features an antiqued-white gray tone—a natural patina of time. Authentic characteristics may include scattered amber age spots, faint surface marks, and stray threads- hallmarks of its genuine heritage.

Care: Vintage textiles require specialized cleaning; please research the proper protocols if you wish to iron or clean this piece.

What is Kalocsai? Kalocsai embroidery is a dazzling explosion of Hungarian spirit that transforms simple fabric into a colorful garden of wildflowers and sun-drenched peppers rendered in a dense, raised texture. Kalocsa art began in the 19th century as white-on-white lace and erupted into a vivid celebration of Hungarian pride, captured in every hand-stitched leaf and petal. These aren't just linens; they are survivors of a vanishing heritage. Skip the machine-made replicas and hold a piece of living history and pure folk art in your hands.
