Social History: This card captures an incredible first-person look at early 1900s mail-order publishing and rural American educational history. The sender, John S. Royer (1845–1915), was a highly celebrated Ohio educator, school superintendent, and editor of The School Visitor educational journal. From his base in Bradford, Ohio, he self-published the widely used textbook Royer's Higher Mental Arithmetic.
