Antique Postcard 1910 Denmark WI Danish Immigrant Diaspora Embossed Flowers
Social History: This card documents the communication lines between Danish enclaves in large cities (Indianapolis) and rural farming communities (Denmark, WI):
- Danish: "Kære lille Ellen! En venlig Erindring sendes dig fra Tante og Onkel i Indianapolis. Med en kærlig Hilsen til alle. Anna Farrier, Peter J. Petersen og Valdemar Larsen. Snart Brev fra os."
- English Translation: "Dear little Ellen! A kind greeting is sent to you from Aunt and Uncle in Indianapolis. With a loving greeting to everyone. Anna Farrier, Peter J. Petersen, and Valdemar Larsen. Letter from us soon."
Scene: The heavy embossing (the raised texture of the flowers) and the combination of purple lilacs and pink roses are classic Edwardian motifs. Lilacs often symbolized "first emotions of love," while pink roses represented "grace and happiness".
