Social History: The handwritten message sent from Pitlochry to Mrs. Sherlock, Carysfort, Glenageary, Co. Dublin, Ireland, offers a remarkable glimpse into the social life of a wealthy Edwardian "hydropathic" guest:

"Here we are quite safe. We arrived yesterday about 5 o'c. There was a fancy dress dance last night but of course none of us had costumes but we danced. We are going for a drive this morning"

Scene: The Atholl Hydropathic (now the Atholl Palace Hotel) opened in 1878 as a Victorian center for water-based healing.
