Antique Postcard 1911 Dandy Deltiology Fishermen Root River Racine Wisconsin
Social History: A long, dense note from friend Emma Sommerfeld to Wesley Millar in Grand Rapids, Michigan:
"Dear friend, Your pretty card received. I did tell C. P. to tell you that I wanted more cards. I only have 2 or 3 cards from your place. I am still kicking, so you are fine & dandy, well that is good way to feel."
This card captures the 1911 "Postcard Craze" in action, asking for more view cards from Grand Rapids to add to her collection.
Scene: This card captures the Root River in its natural state. The river is the historic heart of Racine and a legendary spot for Great Lakes fishing. Look closely at the shoreline to see three small figures fishing along the bank—a detail that adds immense local charm and life to the landscape.
