This historic Hungarian 100 Pengő banknote bears the original design date of July 1, 1930, but features a fascinating wartime backstory. Late in World War II, the evacuated Arrow Cross government urgently required paper currency. Lacking the resources to engrave new plates, they set up emergency operations in Veszprém to reprint the classic 1930 design. To distinguish these late-1944 wartime emergency printings from original peace-era currency, a small star symbol (*) was added directly in front of the serial prefix (*E 080). The artwork showcase a beautiful copperplate portrait of King Matthias on the obverse and a highly detailed panorama of Buda Castle overseen by a turul bird on the reverse.

The note grades in Very Fine (VF) condition, displaying generalized handling, multiple clear intersecting folds, and natural paper softening consistent with uniform circulation.
