This vintage Japanese 100 Yen banknote from the 1953 series. Features Itagaki Taisuke, a legendary politician and leader of the Freedom and People's Rights Movement. He is famously quoted as saying, "Itagaki may die, but liberty will never die," after an assassination attempt.

The reverse showcases the National Diet Building in Tokyo, the center of Japan's parliamentary democracy.

Serial Number: Q 790611 R

Security Verified: Red Seal of the Governor of the Bank of Japan and a profile of Itagaki Taisuke in the circular watermark window when held to the light.

Measures: Approximately 148 x 76 mm

Condition: Heavily circulated with folds, foxing, nicks, tears, and paper softening. Secured in an archival sleeve for protection.

While these remain legal tender even today, they were largely phased out of daily use in the late 1960s when the 100 Yen coin became the standard.
