Social History: Sent on July 3, 1925, this postcard is a premier piece of "Roaring Twenties" student history. The message from Matilda Hansen captures the life of a female student at UW–Madison during a decade of immense social change. Matilda writes about her final push for her degree and her residence in Barnard Hall—the university's very first women's dormitory. Her mention of wanting to "see some of old U.S.A." reflects the new freedom and mobility women were experiencing in the mid-20s.

Dear Hazel: Here I am at Madison once more. I hope to get my degree this summer. Then I plan to see some of old U.S.A. before I do any more summer school work. Am enjoying Barnard so much. I like being in a Hall again. What are you doing these days? Love, Matilda Hansen

Scene: The front features the Abraham Lincoln Monument and Bascom Hall (labeled "Main Hall").
